Chapter 3 is coming soon. Guys, if only we could share what he have planned for this coming chapter. It's really going to change the course of our main man. In the meantime, here's some of Arnie's in-progress work. I swear, checking my inbox when he sends me updates like this is Christmas over and over. Check back for Chapter 3 soon! -R

9/6/2018 0 Comments Bones Of A PageHere's a rough draft page for Chapter 2.2 of "The Middle of the Night of the Cholos." While working on a chapter, Arnie will send me page updates as he's drawing. This is the stuff I love most. Arnie's a master of the subtle, and it's easy to miss little things he adds on while drawing characters posing or talking with one another. Simple stuff. For example, we see Sandra smirk in panel 2 while she's questioning the Juan, entertained by his bravado, but captivated by his ridiculous charm. It's the finger. The little, pointing finger that says, "Are you for real?" It's a gift, what can he say? I always try to catch what quirks the characters do when observing layouts like this. -R 2/26/2017 0 Comments Setting Up a PageWhenever Tito [sic] lays out a page, the first thing he does it figure out dialogue placement. After reviewing the script Tito will place text bubbles around a page to get an idea for character positions and panel configuration.
Once he has that, he uses light blue lines to outline where Juan and co. will be sitting, standing, fighting, etc. before going over it with ink and shadows. These are the blue lines for the most recent Chapter, the introduction of Sandra Gomez. -Q [sic] 11/26/2016 0 Comments The Creation of an IconI had a hard time picturing The Juan when Tito [sic] presented him to me. What would Tucson's only super hero look like? He had this image of a strong, powerful Mexican that oozed charisma, charm, and power in his mind.
I think even from his earliest sketches that point got across. Why wear a symbol on your chest when your face, the face that's experienced hardships and triumph, tragedy and happiness, is enough to show what you are? I loved that idea and immediately appreciated what Tito [sic] was able to bring. -Q [sic] |
